World-Class Scientists to Discuss Type 1 Triggers & Treatments

Researchers from Seattle and Sweden will gather in Seattle this fall to share the latest breakthroughs in diabetes treatments for JDRF Northwest’s third annual Seattle Sweden Diabetes Awareness Day on October 18. Both locales share an extraordinarily high incidence of type 1 diabetes, as well as some of the best diabetes research institutions in the world.

Scientists from Swedish universities will join their colleagues from the University of Washington and Benaroya Research Institute to present international findings on disease triggers and trends to families affected by type 1 diabetes.

Topics include: sensor technology, TEDDY study results on diabetes triggers, type 1 vaccinations, beta cell regeneration, diabetes and the family, and more. All presentations, which are geared for the lay public, take place 10am–3pm on Saturday, October 18 at the Bell Harbor Conference Center in downtown Seattle. Special discussion sessions just for children and teenagers with type 1 diabetes are planned during a portion of the event.
