- Scientists Create ‘Smart’ Nanotherapeutics
Researchers have developed ‘smart’ injectable nanotherapeutics that can be programmed to selectively deliver drugs to pancreatic cells. They used a unique homing peptide molecule to make nanoparticles, which were then programmed to deliver targeted, concentrated drugs to specific cells. Tests revealed that this delivery method increased drug efficacy by 200 times.

- Scientists Find Cell that Triggers T1 Diabetes
JDRF has funded the first researchers to successfully determine the type of T-cells that are responsible for the autoimmune attack on insulin-producing beta cells in people with type 1 diabetes. They also determined which areas of the islets were most vulnerable during the autoimmune attack.
- Make Your Promise in 2012
JDRF’s Promise to Remember Me campaign—now through May—connects legislators to the people with type 1 diabetes in their district.
