Blood Test May Detect T1 Before Symptoms Appear

In a JDRF-funded study, scientists at Yale University developed a new method to measure the genetic changes of insulin that are caused by cell destruction from type 1 diabetes, in people at risk for developing the disease. A blood test detected beta cell loss in mice by looking for the appearance of DNA released by dying beta cells into the blood before the onset of type 1 diabetes.
